Our approach
Original or compatible: what makes a fair comparison?
Brand and price are starting points. Fit, functionality and verified performance decide which options qualify.
Original is a product description
An original-manufacturer filter comes from the appliance brand. That label is not automatically a Best Overall award. Likewise, a less expensive compatible filter is not automatically Best Value. We need enough evidence to compare the exact products before assigning a comparative role.
Compare what changes
Our review separates physical fit, required electronics, independently verified filtration claims, reliability evidence and current purchase costs. A lower price may come with fewer verified reductions, different functionality or a larger required purchase. Those tradeoffs belong in the explanation, not in fine print.
When there is no winner
If there is not enough evidence for an alternative, we do not recommend it. An original replacement can still be identified without pretending we have proven it better than every alternative. We compare filters only when the information supports a fair comparison.
