Why this filter
Before you buy
Check the capacity printed on the cartridge. GE’s current instructions have separate 170-gallon and 300-gallon versions with different test results. Do not assume every MWF-labelled cartridge filters the same substances.
How this compares
This is a checked replacement, not a Best Overall or Best Value winner yet. Before choosing a winner, we need other filters we can trust, a fair comparison of how they work and how reliable they are, and current prices including shipping.
Filtration tests and details
These records explain which filter results we have checked and what their limits are. The same certification name does not mean two filters work equally well.
What we have verified about filtration
We have not yet verified the exact model's health-related contaminant reductions against a current independent certification listing. Manufacturer claims alone do not establish that this filters better than another option.

Installation and care
Installing the replacement
This cartridge uses a twist-and-lock connection. Follow your refrigerator instructions.
Caring for the filters
GE says to flush three gallons (about six minutes) after replacement and not overtighten the cartridge. Replace at the label’s rated capacity, every six months, or sooner if flow drops. Follow your refrigerator’s reminder/reset instructions. Use safe, cold drinking water; protect from freezing. GE lists 40–120 psi and 33–100°F, with pressure control needed above 80 psi. Ask a plumbing professional if unsure.
