Why this filter
What it filters
Independent certification confirms that this filter, when used in the listed system PurePour PWF-1, reduces lead and mercury, among other listed substances. That does not mean it removes everything or guarantees safe tap water. Open the test details below for the full list and limits.
Which system these results apply to
These test results apply only when used in PurePour PWF-1. They cover the filter and system together, not the filter on its own. Confirm your installed system before relying on these results.
How this compares
This is a checked replacement, not a Best Overall or Best Value winner yet. Before choosing a winner, we need other filters we can trust, a fair comparison of how they work and how reliable they are, and current prices including shipping.
Filtration tests and details
These records explain which filter results we have checked and what their limits are. The same certification name does not mean two filters work equally well.
Standards used in these tests
The listings use NSF/ANSI 42-2022, NSF/ANSI 53-2021, NSF/ANSI 401-2023. A shared standard name does not mean two filters reduce the same substances or have the same tested capacity or performance.
How the certification identifies this filter
This filter is shown here as FPPWFU01. The certification listing uses PurePour PWF-1. Reviewed model-mapping evidence connects that certified identity to this product; matching brand names or retailer titles alone would not establish this connection.
What we have verified about filtration
IAPMO's independent listing for certified model PurePour PWF-1 certifies reduction of 2,4-d, asbestos, atrazine, benzene, carbofuran, cysts, endrin, lead, lindane, mercury, o-dichlorobenzene, p-dichlorobenzene, pfoa/pfos, tetrachloroethylene, toxaphene, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) under NSF/ANSI 53, a standard covering specific health-related contaminant reductions. This means reduction under the certification's test conditions—not removal of every contaminant or a guarantee about your tap water. Certification establishes verified capabilities; it does not establish superiority over another filter.
Chlorine, chloramine and particles
The exact-model NSF/ANSI 42 listing certifies reduction of chlorine, nominal particulate class i, taste and odor. These are separate verified capabilities from the health-related reductions above; a generic certification logo alone would not tell us which of them an alternative filter provides.
Additional verified reductions
The exact-model NSF/ANSI 401 listing certifies reduction of the following 9 listed substances or particles: Atenolol, bisphenol A (BPA), Estrone, Ibuprofen, Microplastics, Naproxen, Nonylphenol, Phenytoin, Trimethoprim. This is a defined list—not a claim to remove every trace chemical or particle. An alternative must be checked against its own exact-model list before we can describe its coverage as equivalent.

Installation and care
Installing the replacement
For PRFS2883AF: the water filter is beside the adjustable-temperature drawer. Turn off the ice makers. Push the old filter’s end to release it and slide it out; keep a towel ready. Push the replacement firmly until it clicks into place. Dispense water while checking for leaks, then continue flushing for about four minutes after the first glass. Turn the ice makers back on and hold Water Filter reset for three seconds. This model’s instructions do not require shutting off the water supply. Other refrigerators may use different steps.
Follow your refrigerator instructions. Frigidaire says to push the cartridge in until it locks, then discard about 1.5 gallons of water to prime it.
